Pilates is a mind and body movement system originally called Contrology by Joseph Pilates, a German national, who developed this form of exercise in the early 1900’s whilst interned in England. In 1926 Joe emigrated to the United States where he met Clara on the ship, and together they opened a fitness studio in New York, sharing the same address with the New York City Ballet.

After Joe passed away in 1967 his work continued through the teachings of his proteges, or ‘Elders’. Pilates has continued to develop over the years into a more contemporary style however some schools still teach Classical Pilates.

The instructors at The Pilates Nook teach contemporary Pilates, with a focus on rehabilitation and sports performance. The instructors apply Pilates exercises to help restore, achieve or excel in movement.

Pilates can help relieve pain, prevent injuries, improve posture, improve performance and increase wellbeing.

All our instructors are certified with an accredited Pilates education, recommended by the Pilates Alliance Australasia PAA and Australian Pilates Method Association APMA.

Polestar Pilates offers a network of mentors to support students through their Certificate IV and Diploma in Pilates. Carrie, Shira and Pamela are Polestar mentors and the studio supports Polestar students completing their hours. This involves students observing the sessions, so if you would prefer not to have students in your session please feel free to let us know.
